Patrick White Exhibition

The Life of Patrick White exhibition, 14 August 2012 to 28 October 2012, marked 100 years since the birth of Australia’s first Nobel Laureate in Literature. This exhibition looked at White’s life through the places he lived and was drawn from the collections of the National Library of Australia and the State Library NSW mostly from the National Library’s collection of his papers and other items, such as his Nobel Prize medal and his writing desk.  It not only tells the story of White in all his guises, it also provided great insight into the post-war Australian arts scene.

Why did we fund this project?  Patrick White is one of Australia’s most significant authors and cultural commentators.  This was an important collaboration between the National Library of Australia and the State Library of NSW, revealing much about the author, Australia’s own history and the State Library of NSW’s remarkable collection.
